As my 24th birthday draws near...I wanted to write a post about my upbringing and how it has made me who I am today. This is a picture of my gorgeous mother. Her face says it all...she looks so happy, but slightly stressed that she now has two at once to take care of! She is a woman of grace, I tell you. Somehow her and my dad figured it out...
We grew up with so much joy and laughter...I've been truly blessed. I always say, "My cup runneth over." I have the best older sis-EVER by the way!!
I couldn't get this picture flipped the right direction...oh, well.
I admit...people may view my upbringing as sheltered and that I don't have a very broad understanding of the world. My response would be...that is what your 20's (and beyond) are for!! Stay in that protected world as long as possible. I was taught manners, values and discipline on Miller Farm. Cue the Mellencamp lyrics:
Well I was born in a small town
And I live in a small town
Prob'ly die in a small town
Oh, those small - communities
All my friends are so small town
My parents live in a same small town
My job is so small town
Provides little opportunity, hey!
Educated in a small town
Taught to fear Jesus in a small town
Used to daydream in that small town
Another born romantic that's me
But I've seen it all in a small town
Had myself a ball in a small town
Married an L.A. doll and brought her to this small town
Now she's small town just like me
No I cannot forget where it is that I come from
I cannot forget the people who love me
Yeah, I can be myself here in this small town
And people let me be just what I want to be
Got nothing against a big town
Still hayseed enough to say
Look who's in the big town
But my bed is in a small town
Oh, that's good enough for me
Well I was born in a small town
And I can breathe in a small town
Gonna die in a small town
Ah, that's prob'ly where they'll bury me
I also was taught fun and shenanigans as well :) I love my childhood...and I love that I get to pass these lessons and values on to my children.
Thanks for strolling down memory lane with me. Thanks to my family, who've supported me with enthusiasm my whole life. I'm a lucky, lucky girl :)
